Ecuador: Solid waste management and pollution reduction in the Municipality of Taisha and in the Achuar territories..
This intervention comes as a response to the growing concern expressed by the Achuar community about solid waste during the development of the previous project on environmental management plans (a project carried out by ACRA and Fundacion Chankuap that took place in the period 2007-2010.) This action takes place in the Municipality of Taisha and among the Achuar communities living in the provinces of Pastaza and Morona Santiago in Ecuador. The intervention is aimed at improving the solid waste management of solid and thus preserving the Amazon ecosystem.
Problems to solve
This project aims to establish a common and sustainable strategy of waste management through the involvement and the participation of the Municipality of Taisha and various Achuar communities, creating a permanent process of collaboration and synergy between the parties. The project is intended also to support the local authorities in the field of waste management and in the creation of an efficient and environmentally sustainable system. Such system shall be capable of improving the living standards of beneficiaries and creating a new local environmental awareness in order to preserve the Amazonian ecosystem for the future generations.
This action will significantly help the Municipality of Taisha in strengthening its capacity of solid waste management through the development of a strategy that will be designed together with the communities and gradually applied to the entire Achuar territory.
