How we work

The sphere of ACRA intervention remains distinctive: the rural world with its actors, its grassroots organizations together with the most vulnerable groups - who are the most excluded from the evolution of developing processes both at local and global level.
ACRA is aware of the rural environment precariousness - insecurity that manifests itself both on the environment and on the social and institutional level. Moreover, ACRA believes that development in these contexts should be based on a good balance between environmental protection, social cohesion and institutional strengthening at all decisional levels. On this basis, ACRA's work is mainly focused towards the actors' inclusion in the basic rural development dynamics following the principle of good governance and through:

direct participation in the management of local resources, starting from those whose access is now more difficult (water, land, biodiversity and energy)
promotion of the access to basic services and building human capital for quality life improvement through economic initiative (social business and microfinance)
institutional strengthening for representation, so actors can make their voices heard, enhancing the knowledge they already have and the positive experiences they bring

Based on these assumptions, ACRA strategic choices have declined in four priority areas. In this site - for the fluidity of browsing - we separated water from natural resources:

Natural resources - Sustainable management of natural resources
Water - Access and Participatory management of water resources
Food - Food security and sovereignty
Economy - Microfinance, Social business and Economic development
Education - Human rights, Active citizenship, Intercultural exchange

For the sake of completeness, we also report health interventions in the section Health - Health care and Traditional medicine, in which the intervention methodology is different from other areas, because ACRA role is of pure support to realities managed by different local actors.

ACRA may summarize the establishment of the thematic desk as a unanimous desire to optimize and consolidate the good practices consolidated within our universe and to open the association to other experiences and proven best practices worldwide.

The introduction of the thematic desks followed the recurrence and strategic logic of the past implemented projects. ACRA established four thematic desks:

Food Security - Sovereignty desk

Water and Natural resources desk

Economic development - Microfinance - Social business desk

Education desk

ACRA during its long history - and especially in recent years - has favored integrated development interventions that include food/security sovereignty, economic development, and natural resources - including water, education and training. ACRA decided to give voice to these issues with resources, ideas, vocations and organization.
