El Salvador is a presidential republic in Central America, it has the smallest territory and highest population density in the region. The civil war for years has afflicted the country and heavily affected the economy: presently it is based on agriculture and trade.

The territory’s morphology is quite varied and presents mountain areas, a plateau and two volcanic chains, various lakes and rivers, plains and forests. The region of the plateaux is fertile, and very well cultivated; whereas the coastal areas have many lagoons.
Agriculture is based on flourishing plantations of coffee, cotton, sugarcane, which represent the main produce. The majority of the land is concentrated in the hands of a few landowners whereas the industry is prevalently represented by transformation of agricultural products. The subsoil is quite poor, oil and natural gas are completely absent.

ACRA started operating in the country in 2008, with a youth training project. The geographic areas in which ACRA has concentrated on from 2009 are the department of south Ahuachapan, in particular the area of the micro-region formed by the municipalities of Guaymango, Jujutla, San Pedro Puxla, San Francisco Menendez.

The intervention main actions include: strengthening of citizenship and democratic participation; implementation and support to youth and women owned micro-enterprises; organization and support to local youth networks; guidance and support to government and local institutions in the implementation of national and local youth policies; management of environmental risk in situations of emergency.
