Cambodia is a country in the south-eastern region of Indochina, in correspondence with the Mekong basin and the lake depression of the Tonle Sap. Its climate is monsoonal. Independent since 1953, after the traumas inflicted by the Khmer Rouge regime which in the Seventies caused 3 million casualties, it returned to being a constitutional monarchy in 1993.

Economy is based on agriculture and in the industrial and manufacturing sector. New growing sectors are tourism and exploitation of natural gas, although the recent improvements in GDP continue not to benefit the majority of the population, which is particularly vulnerable in rural areas.

A high level of corruption, the frequent cases of land expropriation to the detriment of the populations, the systematic lack of protection of human rights (a very high rate of prostitution, also involving children), together with the inadequacy of the basic services like school and healthcare are amongst the main problems affecting the country and its inhabitants.

Our organization has been operating in Cambodia since 2006. Through child sponsorship programs, we implement projects particularly targeted at children who live in conditions of poverty, with the purpose of providing quality education, at least until they complete primary school. We also organize intercultural activities complementary to teaching and contribute to the official registration of all children sponsored. We are present in the southern provinces of Sihanoukville, Kampot, Koh Kong and Kandal.
