Senegal is a presidential Republic with a prevalently flat territory, with the exception of some mountain areas of volcanic origin which form the peninsula of Cap Vert. The climate is warm and tropical, with a dry season and a rainy one. The north eastern region is at high risk of drought.

Senegal is one of the poorest countries in the world, but due to its political and social stability, its economy is more developed compared to its neighbouring countries and receives considerable investments in foreign capital, above all French. The main industries are food and textiles; the chemical, mechanical and shoe industries are growing. Recently important oilfields were discovered.

ACRA has been present in Senegal since 1984, in 9 regions of the country's 14 (Dakar, Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine, Kèdougou, Kaolack, Kolda, Louga, Matam, Saint Louis, Sèdhiou, Tambacounda, Thiès. Ziguinchor) where it operates in different sectors: micro finance, water supply infrastructures and corresponding promotion and development of committees at community level for the participatory management of the said infrastructures, agro-biodiversity/food security, traditional medicine, education.
