Burkina Faso is a relatively small country but is one of the most densely populated in Western Africa. The climate is tropical and alternates the dry season with the rainy season. Burkinabé economy is strongly dependent on the neighbouring Ivory Coast (exports and remittances from resident fellow countrymen) and greatly suffers the slump in the economy of this country.

Industry is practically non-existent and agricultural activities are constantly threatened by droughts, which reflects on a shortage of cultivable land (around 18% of the territory), mainly in the south of the country.

ACRA Foundation has been present in the country since 2007 and concentrates its activities in 8 municipalities in Tapoa supporting the populations that live around the W National Park. The main strategy of the Foundation's actions, in harmony with the Country's decentralization policy, consists in creating opportunities for participatory development aimed at, amongst other things, reducing the pressure exercised onto the protected territories of the Park.
