With an estimated population of more than a billion people, which represents 17% of the global population, India is the second most populated country on the planet.
India embraces a vast range of meteorological and climatic conditions, strongly influenced by both its geographic scale and by the topographic variety that hosts the main climatic sub-types which vary from deserts in the west, to alpine and glacial in the north, humid tropical and try tropical in the regions of the south west and the islands, to subtropical, to arid.

Indian economy is amongst the most rapidly growing in the world. It has the second largest workforce in the world, with 516.3 million people, 60% of whom are employed in the agricultural sector and connected industries. The agricultural sector represents 28% of the GDP; services and industrial sectors make up 54% and 18% respectively. Although the Indian economy has grown constantly in the course of the last two decades, its growth is irregular and unevenly distributed amongst the different social groups, economic groups, geographical regions and between rural and urban areas.

ACRA began working in India in 2010, in the state of Punjab, a prevalently agricultural region, where 66% of the population lives in rural areas. ACRA is focusing particularly on women and children, the most disadvantaged segments in terms of resources, access to healthcare and education.
